Ingenious Ideas: Strawberi – The Smart Straw Holder

Ingenious Ideas: Strawberis

After discussing both the DUO and the Bridgit recently, both products from the Such and Such Design Company, we thought we’d also include their Strawberi into our directory. All three products were introduced at the New Product Showcase at Naidex National 2012 in May and all three have major benefits for a range of different users. For now, let’s take a closer look at the Strawberi – smart straw holder.

Drink Hands Free

The Strawberi smart straw holder attaches your drinking straw safely to the side of your drinking vessel, allowing you to enjoy your drink without having to worry about spills or splashes. In fact, you can drink completely hands free. It’s perfect for anybody who perhaps lives with tremors or unexpected muscle spasms as you don’t need to steady your glass or cup with your hand. What’s more, for young children (aged three and over) who often decide that they’ll only drink from a straw, it removes some of the mess and stress from cleaning up all those spilt drinks as they struggle to keep the straw in the correct position.

Also, if you ever get annoyed with straws being popped out of your fizzy drinks because of all the bubbles, you need no longer worry. Strawberi is simple clip which holds the straw securely so you can enjoy your favourite fizzy drink. A very simple idea which you can reuse and are on sale in packs of five or ten. Once you’ve started using one, the whole family will want to get involved and as a dishwasher safe product it’s extremely easy to use and reuse again and again.

There are a multitude of accessible drinking products on the market all designed to ensure there is something out there to suit your specific needs and whilst other products may be more appealing to some users, we’re sure the Strawberi will be the perfect for others and they’re also great value. Low-Tech Lifesavers: DUO – add an Extra Handle to Your Favourite Cup

Low-Tech Lifesavers: DUO – the Extra Handle

DUO from the design company ‘Really Useful Things’, is an extra handle that fixes securely to your cup or mug, making it easier to hold and protecting you from a hot surface.

At Living with Disability, we always like to showcase new inventions that may be of some help to many of our readers and after the Naidex Convention in May, many new products have come to market and we’re keen to share the most innovative with you. One of these is the DUO, an additional ergonomic handle for glasses and cups, which has been designed to aid stability and safety when drinking. An extremely simple and straightforward design the DUO can make a huge difference to your daily life if it means you can drink safely without fear of spillage or scalds in the case of hot drinks. Designed as an alternative to two handled beakers and plastic cups, you can simply attach the DUO to your favourite mug or glass and off you go.

Enjoy a Hot Drink from your Favourite Cup

Ergonomic DUO attached to a regular mug

With the innovative gadgets and inventions we review here at Living with Disability, you can now enjoy a hot drink safely and securely, using your Breville Hot Cup to pour it safely, a Liquid Level indicator to ensure you don’t spill and then your DUO to aid carrying. The DUO has been purposefully designed to ensure ease of use and that carrying should be no trouble. Both grip and stability are aided by the DUO and you can enjoy your drink more easily without having to be in any discomfort whatsoever. The beauty of the DUO is that it adapts items you already have so you don’t need to buy a new mug or glass, you can simply attach to those you have already. What’s more, the material it’s made from also protects your fingers and hand from the heat of a hot cup. They really have thought of everything.

As a new product on the market, the DUO has appealed to many at trade shows and is gaining in popularity and we completely agree that it really is a valuable invention which solves an age old problem.

Essential Items: Medication Organisers

When living with disabilities, it’s understandable that many people rely on a range of medications to ensure they can live comfortably and  independently. For some, this can mean a combination of lots of different medications which all need to be taken at the correct time of the day and it can get confusing. Whilst pharmacies can send out your pills in a organised manner, your own medication organiser can be much more useful and make it easier to find the pills you need when you need them.

Vibrating Alert Organisers

There are a huge range of pill organisers  on the market from the very cheap and basic to more advanced designs which hope to help you remember to take your medication as well as keeping it in order. The development of vibrating and alarmed organisers mean you’ll never need to forget another pill and you can always feel safe without having to keep reminding yourself to take your pills when you need them. This video shows one model of vibrating pill box and how it can remind you to take the pills you need:

Discrete and portable

There are many designs like this wallet model, which make your pill organiser look a lot less clinical and easy to carry about your person without feeling like a walking pharmacy. Alternatively, there are a range of brightly coloured pill boxes on the market and if you only rely on a small number of meds, you could consider this luxurious leather pill box available in four sophisticated colours, or this range of cheerful and prettily designed fabric medication boxes with covers.

It may seem like a small thing but it can really make a difference, especially when out and about and needing to remember to take your pills on time. Relying on medication can be a pain so any steps that can be taken to make it less of a chore are welcomed.
